Due to the nature of filming wildlife we shot an awful lot of footage to get the shots we needed for demonstration purposes. Even the days we spent filming in a controlled environment such as a zoo or wildlife park often proved difficult and taxing at times. On some of the days of filming we would come home with just a few usable minutes from hours of recorded footage. Filming wildlife usually equates to a 40/1 ratio of usable footage e.g. we achieved 1 minute of usable footage for every 40 minutes we actually filmed.
Successful Wildlife Videography was filmed entirely on two JVC GY-HD111E camcorders in native HDV 720p/25p shooting mode. Nigel Cooper of Generic Pool Productions explains why his company choose to shoot this 140-minute training DVD on these camcorders. Not only did Mike use a JVC GY-HD111E to film all the wildlife in this DVD, but as Mike carries out the demonstrations and presents to camera, it was also a GY-HD111E that was used to film him.
